Improving Virtual Workshopping: Reflections from an Online Community of Migration Ethics Scholars

ABSTRACT The COVID-19 pandemic is hastening the shift of world work and study to online, remote, flexible hours. political science profession its attributes conferencing workshopping will likely follow suit. To help direct this flow into relationships reciprocity scholarly co-creation, article details experiences a successful online community known as Normative Theory Immigration Working Group (NTIWG). For past 10 years, voluntary association comprising 88 migration ethics scholars has been meeting routinely exclusively workshop penultimate drafts research papers. Three conveners here reflect on joys group participation mutual learning listening. With intention smoothing way for like-minded groups emerge solidify, we elaborate our group’s animating values learned-by-doing rules scheduling, moderating, offering feedback online. In spirit collectively facing diversity equity challenges confronting future science, conclude by reviewing steps that are taking address own inclusivity.
